Under the auspices of the President of the Council of the Autonomous Province of Trento

With the belief that only the combination of a grassroots research approach with effective technology transfer will promote entrepreneurial mindset in education, and increased competitiveness of the European Industry, the Innovation Summit will bring together major European leaders, public-private sectors, universities and members of the civil society to explore and present the latest findings to improve the innovation cycle. The event will also host the launch of the European Alliance for Innovation (EAI) platform that proposes an effective and efficient system to foster the development of innovation.

Presentation by the Province of Trento of the technological advancement and investments made by the Province.

Outlining the main conference theme on the importance of reinvigorating European innovation through new approaches, and the crucial role of ICT as key enabler of innovation able to bridge divides and to promote European high-tech competitiveness.

Keynote Session

Innovation in Europe: Initiatives and Reforms
Presentation on the state of innovation in the EU. How governments, international institutions and communities can activate European technological reforms with local actors at the helm.

Four show case studies: the community at the forefront of technological reforms
Universities students through web 2.0 tools act as hubs for grassroots ideas and play a major role in the advancement of technologies in their respective countries. Presentation of four case studies in Italy, Europe, Israel and United States

Innovation: a global perspective & the need for bridging the standards gap
The standardization gap can be defined as disparities in the ability of developing countries, relative to developed ones, to access, implement, contribute to and influence international ICT standards, specifically ITU Recommendations.

Innovation stands as ideas applied successfully into practice. Scientific endeavors without society are no longer sustainable. How can Europe capitalize on the innovation efforts?

Presentation of the EAI model and strategy through the analysis of
previous meetings. Presentation of the governing body structure and
the SIBs.

How to get involved: Innovation Roundtable
Participants will be invited to one of five interactive round table discussions exploring specific topical areas of the Innovation Cycle. These strategic round tables will explore how best to improve the current state of innovation in Europe through analysis of best practices based on a collective cooperative approach.

  1. Dissemination through Web 2.0
    Dealing with the issue of how to increate the prestige of the EAI through conferences, publications and new dissemination tools
  2. Education & entrepreneurship
    Exploring new curricula to change student mindset toward a more competitive and entrepreneurial orientation
  3. Research & Technology transfer
    How to close the gap between research and commercialization of an idea
  4. Business innovation & Corporate involvement
    Helping the business players to understand and communicate with the R&D world.
  5. Societal Impact of Innovation
    Defining social impact referred to technological advancement, how these affect the surrounding community.

9.30-10:30 Plenary session of EAI Science for Innovation, Business & technology Councils (SIBs): roles and activities
The SIBs Board Vice chair will introduce the Science for Innovation, Business and Technology Councils (SIBs); EAI’s interest groups organized by technology area.

The newly formed SIBs will meet in parallel working groups in which they will have the opportunity to review and plan their future activities
